Japan according to Julian

 AKIRA    Akira is set in Neo Tokyo, a cyberpunk (before the term cyberpunk even existed) style city. The story follows Kaneda a juvenile delinquent and leader of a bike gang and his friend Tetsuo a former member of the gang who has developed psychic powers. As Tetsuo spirals further out of control the story becomes a struggle between Kaneda, terrorists, the government, and Tetsuo on the streets of Neo Tokyo. The movie is visually beautiful with stunning colors and an unmatched take on the Neo-Tokyo cityscape. the story is so-so and I've heard it deviates from the manga it's based on quite a bit. overall The movie is great and obviously deserves a lot of credit for the popularization of anime in the West. 

  DoroheDoro      Dorhedoro is a crazy show that is pretty hard to describe. It's set in a dystopian fantasy world where magic users exist but they are the bad guys. the story follows Kaiman, a man with a lizards head, in his search to find the magician that cursed him. This anime is incredibly violent and a little psychedelic at times. It's super gritty, imaginative, and original. Definitely a show I would recommend trying and it's got a great first episode that throws you right into the action.

 Perfect Blue      Perfect Blue is the story of Mima, a pop Idol, who quits her group CHAM in order to pursue a career in acting. After quitting, she begins to become overwhelmed by the demands of the acting industry and a fan who stalks her. Throughout the film, Mima's mental state deteriorates until she can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.       This film is great. It uses color in a very interesting way making the film both beautiful and very surreal. The story definitely captures your interest as there is a lot of suspense and intensity. It's at times very hard to watch because it deals with some very intense subject material but is all the better for it.    9/10
