Tokyo Vice

    

Tokyo Vice is an American show but because it's set in Japan features a lot of Japanese. Probably a third of the show's dialogue is in Japanese, some by native speakers but also by the American actor Ansel Elgort. The show takes inspiration from Jake Adelstein's memoir of the same name. The show follows Jake Adelstein and his journey as an American working for a Tokyo newspaper as a beat reporter. Throughout the show, Jake pokes around places he shouldn't and begins to dig deeper and deeper into Tokyos Yakuza gangs. With the help of an older Japanese detective named Hiroto Katagiri Jake enters a dangerous world of gang war and unrest among the yakuza community. In the show, Jake faces danger in his pursuit of unraveling the truth about yakuza, However, most of the adversity Jake faces is instead due to his identity as a foreigner.
